Can Flies Carry Cholera?

The meteorological and sanitary conditions which favor the outbreak and progress of cholera have in many ways a similar influence in fostering and spreading flies. The peculiarities with regard to localisation and movement which have been recorded in some epidemics of cholera are, to my mind, explicable only by assuming the presence in the air of some animal capable of purposive movements and carrying the disease : flies have a peculiar predilection for localities as one may see in any barrackroom, street, or camp, just as cholera has. The success of the method employed for avoiding cholera, as laid down in the Medical Regulations, has been very great. It consists essentially of 1st, cleanliness ; 2nd, movement ; 3rd. lapse of time. I would suggest one more point, viz., " Prevention of pursuit."
